Romney slaps Steele over Mormon comments

Anyone still have the link to that 29 page dossier on Romney?  The fact that Romney played sleaze in the primaries, shifted his position with the wind and ignored truth by pretending it did not exist is what caused Romney to lose, that and the fact that the RINOs in Washington who controlled RNC had anointed him the candidate of choice, dictating who we should support had much to do with it.

Romney is big government, plain and simple.  If only Romney lived up to his Mormon values is the truth of the matter.

Romney slaps Steele over Mormon comments
By Reid Wilson
Posted: 05/11/09 04:13 PM [ET]

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's (R) camp is not happy with Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele's suggestion that base Republicans had a problem with the 2008 presidential candidate's Mormonism.

On Monday, Romney's camp responded to the comments Steele made Friday while guest-hosting a conservative radio show, comments a Romney spokesman said were ill-considered.

Responding to a caller who said Romney could have beaten President Obama had he won the Republican nomination instead of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), Steele took his analysis to another level.

"[R]emember, it was the base that rejected Mitt because of his switch on pro-life, from pro-choice to pro-life. It was the base that rejected Mitt because it had issues with Mormonism," Steele said.

"I mean, I hear what you're saying, but before we even got to a primary vote, the base had made very clear they had issues with Mitt because if they didn't, he would have defeated John McCain in those primaries in which he lost," he added.

Camp Romney fired off a quick response: "Sometimes when you shoot from the hip you miss the target. This is one of those times," Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom told The Hill.

Romney faced considerable challenges, especially with political observers who said he would never be able to win over an electorate skeptical of the Mormon faith. But the former governor proved McCain's strongest challenger, hobbled in many cases by the presence of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, without whom Romney might have overtaken McCain.

Romney won the straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference three years in a row, picked up 11 states during the primary season and won more than 4 million votes, second only to McCain. Huckabee won more delegates, but he stayed in the race a month after Romney did.

Romney is the latest 2008 presidential candidate to take issue with a Steele statement. In early March, when in an interview with GQ magazine Steele seemed to suggest abortion is an individual decision, Huckabee struck back hard.

"For Chairman Steele to even infer that taking a life is totally left up to the individual is not only a reversal of Republican policy and principle, but it's a violation of the most basic of human rights — the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," Huckabee said in a statement.

The Cross, ALMIGHTY GOD and prayer in our country?

At issue now is an 8-foot-tall cross in the Mojave National Preserve in Southern California. It was first erected by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 1934 and has been maintained as a war memorial by the National Park Service.

The American Civil Liberties Union objected to the cross and filed a suit on behalf of Frank Bruno, a Catholic and former Park Service employee.

Two years ago, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled for the ACLU and declared the cross an "impermissible governmental endorsement of religion."

Bush administration lawyers appealed to the Supreme Court last fall and said the "seriously misguided decision" will require the government "to tear down a cross that has stood without incident for 70 years as a memorial to fallen service members." The government also questioned whether Bruno should have standing to challenge the cross, since he lives in Oregon and suffers no obvious harm because of the Mojave cross.

In a friend-of-the-court brief, the VFW, the American Legion and other veterans said the 9th Circuit's ruling, if allowed to stand, could trigger legal challenges to the display of crosses at Arlington National Cemetery and elsewhere.

The Supreme Court voted to hear the case, now relabeled Salazar vs. Bruno. Arguments will be held in October 2009, and Obama administration lawyers will be in charge of defending the Interior Department and its right to maintain the cross. :(

I thought the following was interesting.
My friend Floyd sent this to me last year.
Considering all that is happening in our country, this is a fact worth pondering and a prayer worth giving for the preservation of our freedoms.

Ps 118:29

(Please note that at no time is anyone told that they MUST worship God.)

I for one have said that I do not care if they monitor myself, my e-mails being diverted to a server in Virginia for years. I have nothing to hide. But from all the legislation coming out of this Obama Congress, no longer do I feel that way. Knowing what this article says must now arm us in bringing it to the forefront before the Govenrment has silenced us and taken from us our liberty to survive as a free people. We must continue the teaparty rallies and we must stop the Bills going through congress right now pertaining to hate speech, cap & Trade, carbon stupidity, U.N. treaties, etc.
